Can You Stay?

He was buttoning up his shirt. She reached her hand out.

”Can you stay?” she said.

”I can’t. Promised my wife I’d be home for dinner."

"It’s eleven pm,” she said, “You are late for dinner."

"Oh."

"I know you won’t leave her,” she said, “And I would be a cliche if I asked you to. But is there any chance for us to meet some other way? Can we go away together? Maybe you can tell her it’s a business trip.”

He was tying his tie now. “I guess I can do that next month. Where would you like to go?"

"Not sure,” she said.

He sat on the bed. She started running her hand up and down his back.

”Why do you want to spend more time with me?” he asked, “Isn’t this enough?”

She stopped. “Not sure,” she said, “I just do. Weren’t you leaving?"

"Yeah,” he said, “I need to get going.”
